The 2024 Chinese New Year Cunwan (countryside gala) National Demonstration Show took place in Huyi district of Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, on Feb 5.

The event served as a platform to display the artistic talents of grassroots communities, creating a joyful and harmonious atmosphere for the Spring Festival. It effectively enhanced the sense of happiness and satisfaction among the local residents, injecting new momentum into rural vitalization efforts.

In order to emphasize local cultural characteristics and a festive atmosphere, the event selected 10 outstanding folk art performances that were created, directed, and performed by the local people.

Through a variety of programs including dance, music, storytelling, and traditional opera, the event showcased the deep love that grassroots communities have for their country, people, and hometown, as well as their aspirations for a better life.

In addition to these performances, the show also featured intangible cultural heritage demonstrations.

More than 20 provincial- and municipal-level intangible cultural heritage projects, such as the Huxian shehuo (a traditional folk show), Qinzhen town's Yang Family wooden scale making technique, and Xi'an paper-cutting, were displayed to the public.

Additionally, to expand the coverage of cultural benefits and enhance the festive atmosphere, the event was live-streamed on various platforms. By the end of the livestream, the total number of views across all platforms had exceeded 1.56 million.
