Xi'an airport prepares for Spring Festival travel rush

The 2025 Spring Festival travel rush began on Jan 14 and will last 40 days until Feb 22. With increased demand for family reunions, return to work, and holiday travel, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport anticipates handling 5.56 million passengers, averaging 139,000 daily, and offering 956 daily flights.

The busiest periods are expected to be Jan 25 to 27 and Feb 3 to 5, with peak days involving 155,000 passengers and 990 flights.

China Eastern Airlines plans 6,512 flights from Xi'an, averaging 163 daily, with additional domestic and international routes.

New daily domestic flights will connect Xi'an to Haikou, Altay, Tianjin, and Shenzhen, with seasonal additions to Nanchang. Internationally, the Xi'an-Phu Quoc route will see daily service, while Xi'an-Singapore flights will operate biweekly.

Wide-body aircraft like the A330 will be deployed on popular domestic and intercontinental routes, including Xi'an to Milan and Budapest, to enhance capacity.

China Southern Airlines will optimize resources across Shaanxi's airports, operating over 4,100 flights, with 264 extra services targeting key routes like Xi'an-Urumqi and Ankang-Guangzhou. Chang'an Airlines will run 72 daily flights, accommodating over 430,000 passengers, marking a 14 percent growth.

Airlines are bolstering services with measures like "Carefree Travel" programs, weather preparations, and volunteer assistance, ensuring travelers a smooth and warm journey home this Spring Festival season.
