On Aug 21, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport reached a significant milestone when its third phase expansion project was successfully accepted.

This third phase expansion includes the construction of airport infrastructure and aviation systems, such as the new north No 2 runway and the instrument landing system for this new runway.

The phase's acceptance signifies a comprehensive evaluation of civil aviation development in Northwest China and marks a crucial advancement in the airport's expansion project.

This will further elevate the airport's infrastructure and service capabilities, enhance the transportation system in Shaanxi province, and accelerate the progress of civil aviation development in Northwest China.

The new runway is set to open by the end of December. Subsequently, the airport will feature four runways, four terminal buildings, and a development framework. It is expected to handle an annual passenger throughput of 83 million and cargo throughput of 1 million metric tons, transforming into a hub that integrates air, rail, and road transport.
