Xi'an athlete wins gold in men's 50m rifle 3 positions at Paris Olympics

On Aug 1, in a thrilling final held at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre in Deols, France, Chinese athlete Liu Yukun secured the gold medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions men's final at the Paris Olympics.

Born on April 12, 1997, in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, Liu is a member of the Chinese national shooting team and serves as the assistant coach for the Shaanxi provincial shooting team. He also holds the world record in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions.

Joining the provincial team in 2014 under the guidance of coach Qin Guofu, Liu achieved remarkable success in 2016 by winning three gold medals at the National Shooting Championships and winning titles at the Asian Shooting Championships, earning him a spot on the national team.

His breakthrough came in 2017, when he won the gold medal in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions at the World Youth Shooting Championships, marking his first victory at a world championship.

In 2024, at the World Cup in Azerbaijan, Liu further solidified his dominance by winning two gold medals and setting two world records.
