Livestreamer Dong Yuhui, now a household name in China, summed up his year 2023 with one word - transformation.

Dong, now a senior partner of the e-commerce company East Buy, recalled his homecoming trip emotionally, saying how his grandmother's simple words of comfort and wisdom touched and empowered him.

Speaking of his New Year wishes, Dong went down to earth - a good appetite and sleep.

"I hope I can be the person that I would like to be." That's how he defined his future.

Dong was born in a village in Tongguan county, Shaanxi province.

He graduated from Xi'an International Studies University in 2015 and immediately began working as an English tutor at a New Oriental subsidiary school in Xi'an.

After the company shut down its tutoring business at the end of 2021 to comply with new government regulations, he became a livestreaming salesman. He went viral in June last year thanks to his insightful and humorous hosting style.
