Mambetova Elnura from Kyrgyzstan, who had a deep love for Chinese culture, came to Xi'an to pursue her studies in 2015. At first sight, she fell in love with the city that blends antiquity with modernity.
In 2018, Elnura and her husband, Chao Yonglin, registered Xi'an Manasi Import and Export Trading Co in the China (Shaanxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone, embarking on their entrepreneurial journey in Xi'an.
"I am responsible for organizing clients and sourcing products from Kyrgyzstan, while my husband focuses on domestic market development and channels. Currently, we transport Kyrgyzstan's honey, flour, beef, and mutton specialties to Xi'an and sell Chinese clothing, toys, and electronics in Kyrgyzstan," Elnura explains.
Thanks to the regular operation of the China-Europe Chang'an freight train and the Belt and Road Initiative, Elnura's cross-border e-commerce business has flourished. The freight train facilitates the transportation of goods to Kyrgyzstan in only 12 days, resulting in a saving of at least three weeks when compared to traditional overland transportation.
The company first imported small jars of honey from Kyrgyzstan and now even exports Chinese-made new energy vehicles, continuously expanding its range and forms of foreign trade.
"Chinese-made new energy vehicles and various smart products are prevalent in Kyrgyzstan. Through our efforts, I hope to build a bridge for closer and deeper exchanges between China and Central Asian countries," says Chao.
This year, an international flight route connecting Xi'an and Bishkek was opened. Elnura is researching the tourism market and resources in Central Asian countries, preparing to expand the international education and tourism market.
In Xi'an, many couples, like Elnura and Chao, pursue their dreams and aspirations in the city.
