The Xi'an leg of this year's Perceiving China and Creating the Future event kicked off on Aug 1 at Xidian University in the city of Xi'an – capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – and runs to Aug 5.

The event is hosted by the China Scholarship Council and organized by Xidian University and Huawei Technologies Co.

Themed on "experiencing cutting-edge technology and gathering innovative power", it has attracted the participation of 30 outstanding international students from 12 universities in Shaanxi.

Through visits, classroom learning, exchange seminars and lectures, the event enables international students in China to get a deep understanding of China's scientific and technological development achievements. It also promotes the in-depth integration of education, production and research for international students in China.

At the opening ceremony, the vice-president of Xidian University gave a presentation on its achievements in technological innovation and the training of international young people in recent years.

He hoped that through the event, international students would gain a deep understanding of the development achievements of Chinese technology companies and learn about cutting-edge technologies in the field of artificial intelligence.

Liu Zongping, deputy director of the Xi'an Institute of Huawei Technologies Co, gave a briefing on Huawei's active exploration in AI technology and the development of school-enterprise cooperation.

It was to be hoped that international students would intern or find employment in Huawei and Huawei's partners, Liu added.

A Ukrainian graduate student, majoring in information and communications engineering at Xidian University, said that she was very grateful that the event provided international students with a valuable opportunity to learn and understand the achievements of China's sci-tech development.

She also described her experience of studying abroad and her learning experience at Xidian University, calling on participating students to complete the event with total enthusiasm and a serious attitude.
