A total of 58,798 candidates from Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, participated in this year's gaokao – the national college entrance examination – on June 7 and 8.
The city is home to 13 test areas, 73 test sites, and 2,030 test rooms.
On the afternoon of June 6, all test rooms in Xi'an opened to candidates so that they could familiarize themselves with the rooms and security procedures and participate in foreign language listening auditions.

On the afternoon of June 6, at the 26th Middle School of Xi'an, candidates who were participating in the college entrance examination were able to familiarize themselves with the examination room in advance.
"The school has 26 test rooms, and 780 candidates will sit for the gaokao here. We have prepared anti-epidemic materials, ventilated and disinfected the examination room twice a day, and have set up two isolated examination rooms and two spare examination rooms. In the event of an emergency, the isolated or spare examination room will be used in strict accordance with standard procedures," said He Jinjun, vice president of Xi'an No 26 High School.
Due to hot weather on June 7 and 8, many test sites have put up awnings in front of the doors to cool people as they wait outside the building.
The Xi'an Metro has also launched special green channels for the gaokao. Xi'an test takers need only provide an admission ticket to pass through the channel with up to two accompanying persons after scanning their health code, having their temperature checked, and passing a security check.
