The semiconductor and integrated circuit industry in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, is widely said to be moving from strength to strength, riding a period of rapid development.

In 2021, the scale of Xi'an's semiconductor industry hit 151.35 billion yuan ($21.99 billion), a year-on-year increase of 22.4 percent, ranking it fourth in the country after the cities of Wuxi, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Xi'an has been one of the important scientific research, education and manufacturing centers for some time in the field of semiconductor in China.

Since 2003, the city has successively brought in international semiconductor giants including Intel, Samsung and Micron, as well as top domestic players such as Huawei and ZTE.

In the wake of its establishment in 2012, Samsung (China) Semiconductor Co in Xi'an has become the most important flash memory chips manufacturer in the world.

It has not only helped spur Xi'an to achieve important breakthroughs in the field of semiconductor key technologies, but also become an accelerator for the rapid growth of Xi'an's electronic information industry.

In addition to strengthening their capability of independent research and development, Xi'an's semiconductor companies focus on recruiting top-flight personnel.

Xi'an currently has more than 20 semiconductor and integrated circuit-related scientific research institutions and 12 academic education institutions, with nearly 60,000 employees.
