The manufacturing industry is currently thriving in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, with the number of national manufacturing individual champion enterprises there on the rise.

Individual champion enterprises in the manufacturing industry refer to companies that have focused on certain specific products in the sector for a long time. They also have world-leading production technologies or processes and rank among the top in the world in their market share of individual products.

To date, Xi'an has developed 16 national and 37 provincial manufacturing individual champion enterprises.

One of them is Xi'an Coal Mining Machinery Co. One of the seventh batch of national manufacturing individual champion demonstration enterprises, it is a leader in the country's coal mining equipment manufacturing industry.

In 2022, the company's self-developed alternating current traction intelligent series shearer hit pay dirt. It filled the local need for unmanned, fully mechanized mining equipment in China – replacing the same type of imported shearer. The technical performance of the machine has reportedly reached top international level.

In order to better develop and expand high-quality manufacturers, Xi'an has in recent years provided strong policy support for them in terms of financing channels and assistance.

Grants of up 2 million yuan ($290,967) and 1 million yuan are given to enterprises that have been certified as national manufacturing individual champion demonstration enterprises and manufacturing individual champion products.

Moving forwards, plans are for Xi'an to guide enterprises to focus on innovation in products and accelerate brand cultivation, to develop a number of high-quality manufacturers.
