In the past 100 years since the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, has undergone earth-shaking historical changes and made remarkable achievements due to the strong leadership of the CPC.
The city's gross domestic product (GDP) has increased from 189 million yuan ($29.14 million) in 1949 to 1 trillion yuan in 2020. Its total retail sales of consumer goods grew from 151 million yuan in 1950 to 498.93 billion yuan in 2020.
Xi'an's grain production increased from 456,000 metric tons in 1949 to 1.45 million tons in 2020.
In addition, the per capita disposable income of urban residents and rural residents has risen from 221 yuan and 78 yuan in 1957 to 43,713 yuan and 15,749 yuan in 2020, respectively.
The task of poverty alleviation was completed with high-quality and on schedule, with 73,721 households with 250,414 people lifted out of poverty.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Xi'an will continue to optimize and enhance the international business environment to build a service-oriented government and promote the transformation and upgrading of development zones to form new competitive advantages. It will also cultivate multi-level consumer entities to create an international consumption center city.
