Data from Xi'an's bureau of statistics shows that in 2020, Xi'an, capital city of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, achieved a steady and positive development trend in its employment situation under the normalization of COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures.

Preliminarily estimates suggest that throughout the year, about 6.75 million people found jobs in the city. This was due to Xi'an's policies and measures that prioritized and promoted employment.

In 2020, the registered unemployment rate in urban areas was affected by the pandemic in February before climbing and eventually peaking in July. After that, the unemployment rate had a gradual downward trend and returned to a normal level by the end of the year.

Throughout the year, the registered unemployment rate in urban areas was 3.64 percent, 0.6 percentage points lower than the national level.

Xi'an launched various online recruitment activities last year, which ensured employment channels as the pandemic adversely impacted industries.

Meanwhile, the city also comprehensively deepened reform and innovation. As of Dec 30, 2020, the city's market entities totaled 2.43 million, an increase of 12.0 percent over the previous year, providing strong support for employment stability and expansion.
