From January to April this year, the foreign trade volume of Xi'an, the capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, topped 125.91 billion yuan ($19.6 billion), a year-on-year increase of 14.8 percent, accounting for 91.8 percent of the province's total.
The city's export volume saw a year-on-year increase of 19.5 percent to 61.17 billion yuan during the same period, while imports increased 10.7 percent year-on-year to 64.74 billion yuan.
In April alone, the city's foreign trade amounted to 36.66 billion yuan, of which exports were 16.95 billion yuan and imports were 19.71 billion yuan.
Over the four months, the city's imports and exports to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative achieved positive growth for the first time this year, amounting to 18.84 billion yuan, up 7.2 percent.
During the same period, Xi'an reported trade increases of 24.4 percent and 31.6 percent with South Korea and the European Union, to 30.46 billion yuan and 13.85 billion yuan, respectively.
The combined trade volume of private enterprises and State-owned enterprises rose 51.4 percent and 41.1 percent to 39.48 billion yuan and 7.26 billion yuan, respectively.
Exports of mechanical and electrical products and automobiles increased significantly, while imports of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and edible oil increased.
