Xi'an, capital city of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, recently outlined a blueprint for the development of its modern industries.

The Xi'an municipal government said it would roll out its advanced manufacturing strategy, boost the energy levels and core competitiveness of industry and focus on building a modern industrial system with distinctive local features and an efficient layout.

The plan proposes that by 2022, Xi'an will create a modern industrial system with a complete and efficient production and supply chain.

The core competitiveness of industries will be significantly improved and the city’s five pillar industries with an output value over 100 billion yuan ($14.94 billion) each will have been put in place.

The total output value of advanced manufacturers above a designated size -- those with annual revenue of 20 million yuan or more -- will increase by more than 15 percent annually. The proportion of advanced manufacturing in the city's gross domestic product will be further increased, becoming the main driver for its economic development.

Under the plan by 2025, the total output value of the city's advanced manufacturers above a designated size will exceed 1 trillion yuan, accounting for 70 percent of industries about a designated size.

In addition, six pillar industries with the output value over 100 billion yuan will be formed.

Focusing on the layout of key industries, the city will focus on pillar industries such as electronic information manufacturing, automobiles, aerospace, high-end equipment manufacturing, new materials, new energy and biomedicines.

Also, emerging industries and producer service industries will be developed, including artificial intelligence, 5G networks, modern finance, software and information services.

It will also be necessary to cultivate new business models in the cultural tourism industry, develop the nighttime tourism economy, promote the development of cultural and creative products and special cultural tourism industries.
