A citywide lockdown and mass COVID-19 testing in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, have enabled the city to reduce the risk of transmission, but the local outbreak is still developing, local authorities said on Sunday.
A COVID-19 outbreak was in a "rapid development" stage in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, and a second round of citywide nucleic acid testing was launched on Tuesday morning to stem the virus' spread.
Twenty-four new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported on Sunday in Shaanxi province, the provincial Health Commission said at a briefing on Monday. Twenty-one of those cases were reported in Xi'an, with two in Yan'an and one in Xianyang.
