The Dragon Boat Festival, or Duanwu, is marked on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, and falls on June 7 this year.

Xi’an, in Northwest China’s Shaanxi province, is a hot destination for tourists. A series of events were organized to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival.

Activities included dragon boat races, a "cinnabar for wise-opening" ceremony and a glutinous rice dumpling making activity. The beauty of cultural relics depends on spirits inherited for generations.

The rich variety of festival activities were a major theme of this year's cultural and natural heritage day in Xi’an. Many places of interest in the city staged shows and activities to present the vivid practices of intangible cultural heritage protection and development.
