The 36th Xi'an City Wall Lantern Festival kicked off on Jan 14 in Xi'an – capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – and runs to Feb 26, as a key part of the thrilling 2023 Xi'an Chinese New Year culture and tourism program of events.
Launched in 1984, the festival has become a well-known cultural tourism event, as well as a landmark celebration in Xi'an.
This year, 14 light groups in six major theme areas are lighting up, adding a jaunty, festive atmosphere to the New Year.

In addition to the traditional theme of blessings and welcoming in the New Year, there's a lot more going on. Visitors will be able to take in lanterns showcasing Xi'an's cultural relics, intangible cultural heritage, high-tech and protection, as well as children's favorite animals and plants.
During the festival, Xi'an City Wall will also launch some thrilling interactive performances, all designed to boost the experience of tourists during the New Year.
