Xi'an's foreign trade in past 10 months surpasses last year

From January to October, Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, saw a year-on-year increase of 27.3 percent in its foreign trade to 362.1 billion yuan ($5.67 billion), which has exceeded the 347.38 billion yuan in total foreign trade last year, according to Xi'an Customs.

Of that, exports came in at 193.11 billion yuan and imports totaled 168.99 billion yuan, increasing 34.2 percent and 20.2 percent year-on-year, respectively.

Statistics show that private enterprises in Xi'an are healthy. The foreign trade value of private enterprises in the city in the first 10 months reached 109.84 billion yuan, an increase of 46.7 percent and accounting for 30.3 percent of the city's total.

Imports and exports to major trading partners and countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) maintained growth as well.

Xi'an's trade with South Korea and Japan came in at 82.07 billion yuan and 24.96 billion yuan, year-on-year increases of 11 percent and 39.8 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the city's foreign trade with countries involved in BRI reached 57.12 billion yuan, up 30.9 percent year-on-year.

The value of mechanical and electrical product exports accounted for 93.4 percent of the city's total, while such imports were valued at 125.75 billion yuan, accounting for 74.4 percent of the city's total imports.
