Last year, Xi'an established or increased capital for 16 foreign-invested enterprises, exceeding its target of five such enterprises for the whole year.

The city's investment abroad mainly went to places like Kazakhstan, Germany, Tanzania, and the United States.

In particular, Xi'an's investment in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) increased steadily, reflecting new achievements in the city's deep integration into the BRI.

In 2021, foreign contracted projects in countries involved in the BRI invested in by Xi'an completed a turnover of $1.31 billion, accounting for 55 percent of the city's total foreign contracted project turnover during the period.

In addition, newly signed contracts in countries involved in the BRI by Xi'an were valued at $420 million, accounting for 14 percent of the city's total newly signed contracts during the period.
