Xi'an sees foreign trade up 10.5% in Jan-May

Foreign trade conducted by Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, was worth 182.76 billion yuan ($27.27 billion) in the first five months of the year, an increase of 10.5 percent on the previous corresponding period, according to Xi'an Customs.

Breaking that down, exports were worth 112.38 billion yuan, up 39.3 percent year-on-year and maintaining growth for five consecutive months, while imports declined 16.9 percent to 70.38 billion yuan during the period.

Statistics showed that the total imports and exports value of processing trade was 108.7 billion yuan, an increase of 24.7 percent – a performance which accounted for 59.5 percent of the city's total.

During the period, the foreign trade of the city's private enterprises witnessed a strong performance, climbing 15.8 percent year-on-year to 58.24 billion yuan, accounting for 31.9 percent of the city's total.

In addition, the foreign trade of foreign-funded enterprises and State-owned enterprises in the city came in at 115.44 billion yuan and 8.81 billion yuan, respectively.

In the five months, the value of the city's trade with the European Union, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative increased by 20.6 percent, 46.1 percent and 34.9 percent, respectively.

During the period, Xi'an's trade with South Korea decreased by 1.5 percent to 39.17 billion yuan.

The value of mechanical and electrical product exports increased by 39.4 percent year-on-year to 104.69 billion yuan, while imports of the products were valued at 44.56 billion yuan, down by 28.4 percent.
