Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, recently ranked 13th on the list of the country's 100 top digital transformation cities in 2021 – and was the only city in the province to reportedly make it onto the list.

The findings were released by Beijing-based market research firm CCID Consulting, at the First China New Smart City Construction Summit held in Qingdao city, East China's Shandong province.

The consultancy conducted a comprehensive assessment of the digital transformation capabilities of cities across the country through data analysis. This was based on an indicator system covering six areas: information foundations, urban governance, social services, the industrial economy, innovation guarantees and low-carbon development.

At present, the construction of a smart city in Xi'an is being centered on areas of intelligent infrastructure, social governance, convenient public services and the digitization of industrial development.

The city has also been accelerating its development as a smart city in the fields of government affairs and industry.

In the process of optimizing its business environment, public services and urban governance, Xi'an has accelerated the promotion of a new generation of information technology – in urban public services, urban governance, economic development and safety and environmental protection.

This has reportedly made full use of its modern and technological factors, to help drive forwards its urban development.
