The first session of the 15th Xi'an Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, on March 28 and will last until March 30.

More than 500 CPPCC members attended the opening ceremony, including Yue Huafeng, chairman of the CPPCC Xi'an Committee, and Wu Jian, vice-chairman of the CPPCC Xi'an Committee.

Wu presided over the conference, while Yue delivered the work report of the CPPCC Xi'an Committee for the past five years, giving a briefing on its work blueprints for the next five years.

The report said that, in the past five years, the committee had strengthened political guidance and encouraged CPPCC members to better perform their duties. In the next five years, it will also formulate consultation and deliberation plans, arrange democratic supervision projects, and take better advantage of the effectiveness of special consultation institutions.

The session also commended outstanding proposals, advanced sponsors of proposals and advanced individuals of proposals since the fifth session of the 14th CPPCC Xi'an Committee.

During the session, CPPCC members will offer suggestions on how to speed up the development of Xi'an into a national central city and write a new chapter in the high-quality development of Xi'an.
