The sixth session of the 16th Xi'an Municipal People's Congress opened on Feb 2 in Xi'an, capital city of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
The event was presided over by Hu Runze, the executive chairman of the presidium of the sixth session of the 16th Xi'an Municipal People's Congress.

Xi'an Mayor Li Mingyuan delivered the annual government work report, including a review of the work in 2020 and during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), the plans for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2020-25) and the long-term objectives for 2035. He also spoke about the government work arrangement for 2021.
According to the government work report, Xi'an's gross regional production (GDP) grew by 5.2 percent in 2020, to more than 1 trillion yuan ($154.8 billion).
The report also set goals for 2021, including a GDP increase of more than 7 percent, an increase of more than 10 percent in total fixed-asset investment, and an increase of more than 9 percent in total retail sales of consumer goods.

The mayor also mentioned the main tasks for 2021 concerning 10 different aspects, including improving the business environment, strengthening scientific and technological innovation, developing the real economy, enhancing cultural construction and fully implementing the rural revitalization strategy.
The session also reviewed the city’s overall budget revenue in 2020 and the draft budget for 2021.
