A Duanwu-themed demonstration was held on June 20 at Tang West Market in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, to welcome the upcoming festival.
Also known as the Dragon Boat Festival, Duanwu falls on the fifth day of the fifth month on the lunar calendar, which this year is June 25.

The event included classic recitations, cultural performances, entertainment and fitness, and lectures on folk knowledge, showcasing a new format for the traditional festival.
"The activity was chosen to be held at Tang West Market, giving people a wonderful sense of travelling back in time," said Xia Liping, a Xi'an citizen.

Tang West Market is an international business travel and cultural industry project with the theme of the culture of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), and of the Silk Road.
It was rebuilt on the original site of Chang’an in ancient China, which reflects the business culture and market culture of the dynasty. It is also a window for cultural exchanges and trade between East and West.
