Wang Hao, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shaanxi Provincial Committee, and secretary of the CPC Xi'an Municipal Committee, declared the event open.
Li Mingyuan, mayor of Xi'an city, delivered the annual work report, including a work review of 2019, the overall requirements and main goals of 2020, key tasks to be undertaken in 2020, and the need to build a service-oriented government that the people are satisfied with.

According to the report, the city’s gross regional production (GDP) reached 932.12 billion yuan ($131.23 billion) last year, with a year-on-year increase of seven percent.
The report also set goals for 2020, including an increase of around 7.5 percent in GDP and an increase of eight percent of total investment in fixed assets.
The mayor said that this year the government will focus on work including preparing for the 14th National Games, building a city with an advanced manufacturing industry, boosting the development of cultural tourism, promoting the integrated development of urban and rural areas, and creating an international business environment.
