As the new administration center of Xi’an, Weiyang District borders the Bahe River in the east, connects the Taiping River in the west, starts from Wei 26th Street in the south and finishes at the Weihe River in the north. Covering an area of 262 square kilometers, the district has 10 street offices under its jurisdiction. The number of permanent inhabitants of the district is 814,600, with a police registration population of 555,400, and the urbanization rate has reached 91.5%. With 12 dynasties including the Qin, Han and Tang established their capitals in Weiyang area, the region ranks No. 1 in all the districts and counties of the country in terms of abundant ancient sites, the proportion of the area and the values. Qin Epang Palace, Han Chang’an City and Tang Daming Palace are famous both home and abroad. As the new administration center of the city, Weiyang District boasts peculiar regional advantages. It is at the very center of the “nine-grid pattern” in the overall urban planning, the forefront of the integration of the cities of Xi’an and Xianyang, and the core of Guanzhong-Tianshui Economic Development Zone. It is named after the Han Dynasty ruins of Weiyang Palace, which means “endless prosperity”.  

Weiyang is an area connecting the whole country and opening to the world. Of the backbone highways leading to 8 directions in Shaanxi, 6 have their connection points in Weiyang District, and within the area lies the largest railway station in Asia- Xi’an North Station. Xi’an-Tongchuan Expressway, Xi’an Bypass Expressway, and Airport Lines one and two run across the region, consequently, the region serves as the connecting point for Xi’an to go either to the east-west or south-north directions. 

Weiyang District is an ecological zone with beautiful waters, green landscope and vitality. The area boasts abundant ecological resources, of all the urban districts, in the region there are the most water systems and the largest water area of over 30,000 mu (more than 2,000 ha.), forest cover rate is more than 35%, and in the area you can find Hancheng Lake National Water Conservation Scenery Spot, the Weihe River Wetland Park, Weiyang Lake Fairground and Chanba National Wetland Park. 

Weiyang District is an ancient capital with over one thousand years of history, and it is also a cultural area in a region where China prospered in history. With its rich historical deposit, the region served consecutively as the capital of 12 dynasties in a period of more than 1,200 years. The ruins of Tang Dynasty Daming Palace, Han Dynasty Chang’an City and Qin Dynasty Epang Palace are famous worldwide, and the historical ruins shine brightly with modern development.   

Weiyang District is a tourism area with complete functions and facilities. There are 5 tourist scenery spots, 3 national industrial tourism demonstration spot, 9 star-rated hotels, 8 travel agencies and 15 Class A reception and service institutions including tourism, catering, shopping, recreation and entertainment with a total employee number of over 10,000. In the past few years, according to the different tastes of the tourists, the District designed 3 theme travel routes, including Relics and Ruins Tour, Recreation and Water-related Tour, and Urban Fashion Tour.
