2018 “We Are Family Silk Road Chang’an” Shaanxi and Hong Kong Youth Cultural Exchange Program Held

On the evening of August 6, the 2018 “We Are Family · Silk Road Chang’an” Shaanxi and Hong Kong Youth Cultural Exchange Program was held at the scenic spot Tang Paradise in Xi’an.

Wang Yongkang, Standing Member of Communist Party of China Shaanxi Provincial Committee and Secretary of Communist Party of China Xi’an Municipal Committee; Hui Wing Mau, Standing Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of Board of Presidents of New Home Association; He Jing, Deputy Director of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region attended and addressed the event. Present at the meeting were other senior officials such as Shangguan Jiqing, Mayor of Xi’an; Li Jiyi, Chief of Department of Social Work under Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Li Sze-lim, Chairman of Board of Supervisors of New Home Association; Zhang Yin, Lin Junbo, Presidents of New Home Association; Bai Huifang, President of Shaanxi Overseas Friendship Association; Shi Xiaohong, Standing Member of Communist Party of China Xi’an Municipal Committee and President of Xi’an Overseas Friendship Association.

Wang Yongkang expressed his warm welcome to the youngsters attending this event. He also said that youths are the future of the country and hope of the nation; that the campaign featuring “Shaanxi and Hong Kong are family” has erected a bridge of exchanges between Shaanxi and Hong Kong; that he hopes the youths can feel the hospitality of the Xi’an people, contact the great achievements made by Xi’an in the reform and opening up endeavors, experience the varied cultures in Xi’an that is the most characteristic of China and taste the stories, history and cultures of Xi’an; that both localities will take this opportunity to strengthen exchanges and cooperation and to increase consensus and friendship and to work for the prosperity of the motherland and the revitalization of the nation by transforming the patriotism into the driving force of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Hui Wing Mau said that Shaanxi is the place of origin of the Chinese civilization, Xi’an is a city that was the ancient capital of 13 dynasties; that the exchange program aims to promote the awareness of Hong Kong youths about history, culture and social development of China and to increase the pride and perception of affiliation; that New Home Association will adhere to holding the “We Are Family” exchange program of youths that will promote the incorporation of Hong Kong youths into the development of the country for better future.

He Jing said that all youths present are expected to open eyes, increase knowledge and enhance capability to serve the country by integrating personal pursuit and national goals to jointly make China great and prosperous.

At the event, a ceremony was held where water and soil was mixed to represent the implication of “connection of flesh and bones” and the youths also watched artistic performances with strong local characteristics of Xi’an. During the stay in Xi’an, youths of Hong Kong will visit the scenes of cultures and history and experience the historical glories of Xi’an as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and the bright and colorful Chinese cultures in Xi’an.
