Citizens admire the beautiful light show at Xi’an “Belt and Road” International Light Festival

On the evening of March 23, “the Belt and Road” International Light Festival 2018 was opened at Gpark Joy Square in Lianhu District, where a superb audio-visual feast combining light and music, technology and fashion was presented to the public.

The opening ceremony was attended by Wang Yongkang, standing member of Communist Party of China Shaanxi Provincial Committee and Secretary of Communist Party of China Xi’an Municipal Committee, and Bas Pulles, ambassador of the Netherland in China, who also delivered a speech and pressed the touch screen with Ineke van de Pol, cultural attaché of embassy of the Netherland in China. Li Yuan, vice mayor of Xi’an presided over the ceremony. 

In his speech, Bas Pulles said that with time-honored culture and history Xi’an is the starting point of the ancient Silk Road and plays an important role in the “Belt and Road Initiative”. He was glad the light festival was held in Xi’an, as the achievement of the fruitful cooperation between Dutch cultural bodies and the city. And he hoped both sides can establish more active partnerships taking advantage of activities like this to boost extensive exchanges in multiple cultural sectors.

Co-sponsored by Xi’an Municipal Government and Embassy of the Netherland in China, the event will exhibit the historical and cultural accumulation of the Netherland that was honored “Sea Coachman” in history and is intended to build a bridge connecting Xi’an and Amsterdam for cultural exchanges, to reinforce the cooperation in cultural creative based on mutual benefit between the two cities, to further promote the cultural exchanges of Xi’an with cities of “Belt and Road” countries, and to display the new image of Great Xi’an in the new era to the world.

The festival will cover the period from March 23 to May 2, a total of 41 days, during which 10 world renowned Dutch artists will present 11 high-quality creative light shows such as Video Painting, Curve Halo, Fluid Structure, Light Battle, Tulip Bouquet, Friendship Ring, etc., to present the most technological, most creative light show in multiple artistic forms and light displaying for better understanding the art and country of the Netherlands.

That night, the colorful light show dressed up the venue to make it a gorgeous view and attracted many residents and visitors. After the opening ceremony, Wang Yongkang inspected the artistic works of light such as Light Battle, Video Painting.
