On Feb. 18, the third day of the Chinese New Year, 200 foreigners from the United States, the UK, France, Australia, South Korea and other countries visited the City Wall and experienced a different Chinese New Year in Xi’an. The dazzling festive lanterns on the City Wall and the warm-toned night scene of the ancient city deeply caught the eyes of these international friends, who all had their thumbs up to give likes to the urban construction of Xi’an, “It’s very, very beautiful!”

Everyone’s heart was full of hope and anticipation. Each and every family had put up beaming decorations, spring couplets and character “Fu”, and people went to light shows, alive with the irresistible temptation of the Chinese New Year. For foreigners living in China, the Chinese New Year has become one of their most important holidays, and thousands of foreigners came to Xi’an to have the Chinese New Year and experience the Chinese New Year in the profound traditional culture of China at the Spring Festival this year. On Feb. 18, Qujiang city wall, together with the Municipal Tourism Development Committee, organized the activity “Foreigners Having Chinese New Year in Xi’an”, inviting 200 foreigners to visit the city wall.

“I used to learn about the history of China in books. I have known that 13 dynasties founded capitals in Xi’an, including the Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, Tang and so on, and that Xi’an is one of the four ancient capitals in the world, so I am very longing for this city,” Gwynn Buster, a 21-year-old girl from the United States, told the reporter. She had been in China for less than one year and was currently engaged in educational work in Wenzhou, and she had chosen to spend the first Chinese New Year in Xi’an. She said, “I think that Xi’an is different from other cities, as it is both very old and modern, and the night scene here is spectacular and beautiful. There are light shows and a lot of visitors on the ancient city wall, so I have experienced the dense Spring Festival atmosphere here.”

Sam, a British living in Beijing, also came to Xi’an for the first time, and he visited the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, the Great Wild Goose Pagoda, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, the and Daming Palace National Heritage Park, with the City Wall as his fifth stop. These days, while he played in Xi’an, he became interested in the Chinese traditional culture, and he said, “Decorated with colorful lights everywhere, the Xi’an City forms a piece of “red” representing the Chinese New Year, which highlights the cultural confidence and country style of China.”
“During the Spring Festival, the City Wall received nearly 30,000 visitors every day, among which many were foreigners and tourists from neighboring provinces such as Sichuan and Gansu,” said Jia Ye, head of the Sales & Marketing Department of Xi’an Qujiang City Wall Tourism Development Co., Ltd. The City Wall spring festival light show has passed on for 31 years, only to let more people feel the Spring Festival atmosphere in China. With tens of processes including drawing, framework, sample making, welding, papering and so on, more than 100 craftsmen have spent half a year carefully integrating the flower lamps one after another with intangible craftsmanship and blessings and sent them to the residents. This year's City Wall light show will be up to Mar. 25, leaving 46 days for visitors to come to the City Wall to feel “Spring Festival in Xi’an, Most Cultural and Traditional.” In addition, the City Wall Scenic Spot has also prepared a big black tech gift pack—AR Light Tour for visitors this year, that is, the visitors can enjoy the light tour on their mobile phones by scanning the two-dimensional code.
