Xi’an and Mazar-e-Sharif of Afghan Signs Letter of Intent for Sister Cities-Ibrahimi, Shangguan Jiqing and Mosazai Attended the Signing Ceremony

A signing ceremony of the letter of intent for Xi’an and Mazar-e-Sharif, a city in Balkh Province of Afghan, to become sister cities took place on the morning of September 23.  Abdul Raoof Ibrahimi, the speaker of the Lower House of the Afghan Parliament, Shangguan Jiqing, the mayor of Xi’an, and Janan Mosazai, the ambassador of Afghan in China, attended the ceremony.
Mazar-e-Sharif, the biggest city in north Afghan, is a transportation hub and commercial and cultural center. The letter of intent signed in the ceremony will actively promote the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in economy, trade, science, technology, cultural education, healthcare, sports and human resources, and establish the relationship as sister cities at the appropriate time. This signing marks a further consolidation of friendly and cooperative relations between the two cities.
Ibrahimi expressed his admiration for Xi’an’s long cultural history and broad development prospect, and the willingness to work together to promote deep cooperation between the two countries in such fields as economy, trade, culture and personnel exchanges. This signing opened a new chapter for the exchanges and cooperation between the two cities.
Shangguan Jiqing expressed his gratitude to Ibrahimi and his delegation for their attending the Euro-Asia Economic Forum. He said that Xi’an, as one of the important cities in the “Belt and Road” initiative, had prominent advantages in national strategy, location, scientific and innovative resources, industrial development, history, culture and investment environment, and had already ushered in a golden age with multiple preferential policies and opportunities. Shangguan Jiqing also expressed his hope for Ibrahimi and his delegation to know more about Xi’an, to feel its rich historical culture and environment for development and get more people to know it with his influence, and to carry out extensive and deep exchange and cooperation between Xi’an and more cities in Mazar-e-Sharif. Xi’an will actively fulfill the “Five Measures” to ensure coordinated policies, combined infrastructure, smooth trade, unhindered capital and connected people, as well as the “Five Programs of Actions” on peace, prosperity, opening up, innovation and civilization.
Lv Jian, a member of the Standing Committee of executive vice mayor of Xi’an, and Jiao Wei, secretary general of Xi’an, attended the ceremony.
