Experts and Scholars from Home and Abroad Provide Think Tank Support for “the Belt and Road” Cooperation

The 13th IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (IEEE CASE 2017) was held in Xi’an on August 21st

“Iris recognition is one of the most promising methods in biometrics,” said academician Tan Tieniu in his speech made on the morning of August 21st, with focus on the research and achievements in iris recognition. Academicians and experts from home and abroad gathered at Xi'an Jiao Tong University on August 21st to attend the 13th IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (IEEE CASE 2017), which included academic reports and seminars around the theme of “automation of the next industrial revolution”, and supported “the Belt and Road” cooperation as its think tank.

The Academicians Frontier Speech Started Hot Discussions

This conference was jointly hosted by IEEE (Institute of electrical and electronic engineers) and RAS (Robotics and Automation Association) and co-organized by Xi'an Jiao Tong University and Tsinghua University. He Yuqi, academician of the American Academy of engineering, foreign associate of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Chinese Academy of Engineering(CAE), Tan Tieniu, academician of CAS and deputy director of the liaison office in Hong Kong, Wu Cheng, academician of CAE, Ding Han, academician of CAE, professor Frank Doyle from Harvard University, and Wang Shuguo, president of Xi’an Jiao Tong University, attended the opening ceremony. Guan Xiaohong, dean of Electronic and Information Engineering of Xi’an Jiao Tong University chaired the conference. Recent achievements in the field of automation were fully displayed through keynote reports, academic exchanges, training courses and achievement exhibitions by international scholars, entrepreneurs and famous companies, who were discussing the direction of the future frontier as well.

Tan Tieniu, deputy director of the liaison office in Hong Kong presented a report titled Automatic Biometric Identification of Human Individuals during the conference. Tan began his speech with basic concepts of biometrics, followed by a review of the cutting-edge technologies and analysis of the challenges ahead. Based on the theme of “Controlling the Artificial Pancreas”, professor Frank Doyle of Harvard University analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of the two current treatments to type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), emphatically introducing the clinical presentation on the control algorithm of artificial pancreas feedback carried out with cooperation between the the research team and clinical doctors, the application of system engineering into the regulation mechanism of biological system, and the process system engineering algorithm in clinical trial of artificial pancreas.

Pushing Forward the Disciplinal Development of China’s Automation Science and Technology

The conference has built a platform of high-end academic exchange for the exports, scholars, technicians and entrepreneurs in global automation. Scholars made academic discussion on intelligent manufacturing systems, intelligent buildings, intelligent transportation systems, and intelligent energy systems, exchanged the latest achievements in the theory, methods and practice of automated science, jointly improved scientific research and related industry, promoted the automation science and technology in China, enhanced the influence of automation in the international academic and business circles, and provided industry-university research and innovation as well as "the Belt and Road" collaborative innovation with academic and intellectual support.

From August 22nd to 23rd, the conference will have themed seminar on “future automation” and “Industry 4.0 and Made-in-China 2025”, which will be attended by many academicians and experts from home and abroad for further discussion.
