Academic exchanges between Xi’an and Milan have been enhanced, as the two cities jointly launched a school of design and an innovation center in Xi’an, capital of Northwest China’s Shaanxi province, on Sept 7.
The plaques unveiling ceremony for both the Xi’an Jiaotong University-POLIMI Joint School of Design and the Xi’an Jiaotong University-POLIMI Joint Innovation Center took place at the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbor Wisdom Uni-Town (Innovation Harbor), along with a festive activity themed around POLIMI (Polytechnic University of Milan).
Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) has maintained a longstanding cooperation partnership with POLIMI. In 2009, the two sides signed an agreement on the joint cultivation of doctoral students. After that, the two schools have continuously expanded their cooperation in more fields for talent cultivation.
In 2016, XJTU and POLIMI agreed on the construction of a design school building at the Innovation Harbor, and in March this year, the State Council approved a cooperative education program on architecture for the two universities.
At present, the two universities have cooperated in various fields, including electric engineering, mechanical engineering, management, nuclear science, industrial design, aeronautics and astronautics, arts, relics protection, as well as architecture.
During the ceremony, XJTU President Wang Shuguo said that the establishment of both the school of design and the innovation center meets the development need of the Belt and Road, as well as aims to promote the talent cultivation between China and overseas places.
Ferruccio Resta, president of POLIMI, said that two universities have cooperated many times over the past few years, which lays solid foundations for the establishment of the joint school. The school aims to facilitate academic exchanges and cultivate outstanding talents.
