The 27th Plenary Session of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific and the 5th International Symposium were held on Saturday in Xi'an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China to further promote international engineering education and speed up economic and social development in the Asia-Pacific countries and worldwide.

More than 200 delegates from 21 countries and regions, including Singapore, Malaysia, India and Myanmar, participated in the international academic exchange conference.

This symposium took "mutual recognition of engineering education qualifications" as the theme, where participants specifically discussed how to develop engineering education in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, how to promote exchange of engineers and students between those countries, and how to enhance mutual recognition of their engineering education qualifications.

The Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific is one of the most important engineering organizations in the region.

In November 2017, Huang Wei, vice-president of Northwest Polytechnic University, was invited to Thailand to attend the 35th ASEAN Regional Federation of Engineering Institutes and the 9th Council of the FEIAP, and was elected FEIAP’s vice-chairman and president-designate.

At the conference, Huang assumed the post of chairman of FEIAP.
