In 2020, Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, achieved significant improvement in the quality of its environment.

The number of days with good and excellent air quality during the year was 250, an increase of 25 days compared with 2019.

The number of days with heavily polluted air was 15, 13 days less than the previous year. For the first time, severely polluted air was eliminated.

Throughout the year, among the 45 monitoring sections for the 19 water bodies monitored by the city, 45 met or exceeded the assessment requirements.

In 2021, Xi'an will continue to promote high-quality economic development while also prioritizing environmental protection.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the city will resolutely curb the blind development of high-energy-consuming and high-emission projects and optimize the transportation structure.

The coordinated control of PM2.5 and ozone is one of the key goals of the city's air pollution prevention and control plan.

The city will effectively improve its atmosphere environmental quality by establishing an action plan for the continuous improvement of air quality, taking PM2.5 and ozone control as the core and the comprehensive control of nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds as the starting point.

Xi'an will strengthen big data management, deepen data research and analysis, and strive to make breakthroughs in the field of ecological and environmental protection. It will make these adjustments based on data monitoring capabilities.

Regarding the prevention and control of water pollution, Xi'an will do an excellent job in reporting the water quality monitoring data of key rivers and lakes and solve the problem of poor water quality in some sections.

Meanwhile, the city will also increase its environmental protection work in the Qinling Mountains.
