Xi'an ranked 73rd with a score of 683 points in the comprehensive competitiveness ranking of global financial centers, as announced in the 40th Global Financial Centers Index (GFCI 40).

A total of 117 financial centers worldwide were included in this year's assessment. Xi'an's score rose by 13 points from the previous edition, with its ranking climbing six places. It ranks 10th among the Chinese mainland cities and is also the only city in Northwest China on the list.

Launched in 2007, the GFCI is updated in March and September of every year. Serving as a key reference for the global financial sector to gauge a city's financial strength, its evaluation framework covers five categories: business environment, human capital, infrastructure, level of financial industry development, and city reputation. Rankings are produced by combining objective indicators with surveys of global finance practitioners.

Xi'an's finance has maintained sound and rapid growth in recent years, with its major indicators climbing higher in the rankings among large and medium-sized cities nationwide.

As of December 2025, the balance of local and foreign currency deposits of financial institutions in the city stood at 3.95 trillion yuan ($58.84 billion), a year-on-year increase of 7.1 percent. The balance of local and foreign currency loans of financial institutions reached 4.12 trillion yuan, up 7.6 percent year-on-year. Medium- and long-term renminbi loans to the manufacturing sector rose by 23.2 percent year-on-year.

Xi'an continues to refine its financial business environment, addressing development gaps, including high-end financial talent and capital market factor platforms. It fosters in-depth integration between financial resources and hard-tech industries, such as aerospace, photonics, and integrated circuits. With financial vitality empowering the cultivation of new quality productive forces, the city is improving its comprehensive competitiveness.
