In 2025, Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum excavated the eastern section of the ninth cave of Terracotta Warrior Pit 2, uncovering two chariots, 15 sets of vehicle and horse equipment, and nine weapons.
A museum representative said that, based on the plane layout, the ninth cave belongs to the second unit of Terracotta Warrior Pit 2, updating the previous understanding that it was classified as unit 3 of Pit 2. No wheels were found on the unearthed chariots, indicating that these vehicles had primarily symbolic significance.
The Terracotta Warrior Pit 2 is a curved ruler with an area of nearly 6,000 square meters. According to the trial excavation results, over 1,300 pottery figurines and horses are buried in the pit.
To date, multiple groups of Terracotta Warriors, such as chariots, cavalry, and shooting figurines, as well as most of the well-preserved painted figurines, have been unearthed from Pit 2.
