Ice and snow sports are becoming a trendy part of urban life in Xi'an. With the rise of indoor ski resorts, residents can enjoy skiing year-round, free from seasonal restrictions.

Xi'an Bon Ski Resort, the largest and most advanced indoor ski resort in Northwest China, opened in August 2023. Although winter is not the peak season for indoor skiing, the park hit daily visitor capacity during the recent Spring Festival holiday, with attendance up 10 percent year-on-year.

Another favorite among locals is Jihua Ice & Snow Center Xi'an in Xixian New Area. As the largest indoor ice and snow complex in Northwest China, it welcomed over 120,000 visits from May to December last year. During the Asian Winter Games, the venue hosted free beginner and advanced ski lessons to promote winter sports.

Cuihua Mountain Ski Resort, the only high-altitude natural ski area in Xi'an, saw a 25 percent increase in visitors from December 2024 to late January. Meanwhile, sales of ski gear in local Decathlon stores grew by 10 percent in January.
On Feb 14, Xi'an launched 1 million yuan ($137,320) in ice and snow vouchers to further promote winter sports and encourage participation in nine local venues. The city's sports bureau promises continued efforts to expand the winter sports economy and fuel Xi'an's modernization through sports development.
