The T5 Terminal of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is set to commence operations on Feb 20. The airport's joint operation and control center was put into operation on Feb 11, serving as the "central brain" responsible for overseeing all airport flight operations, scheduling, and command.

The center spans a total area of 1,700 square meters, with its core functional zone covering approximately 1,000 square meters, ranking among the largest in the country.
Equipped with seven control islands and 108 designated workstations, the center has six key functions: airport operation command, departure coordination, flight support, passenger services, runway coordination, and maintenance management.
Huo Jingyun, deputy manager of the command center of the operation control center at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, highlighted the island stations' ambient lighting system. "Each island station is equipped with ambient lights that are typically green. However, in case of an emergency, the lights change to red, orange, yellow, or blue based on severity, impact, and involved units, enabling quick response and effective coordination."
In 2022, the airport implemented a "1+3+N" three-tier operational command structure. The "1" represents the airport operation center, which oversees overall airport operations, emergency response, and key security coordination. The "3" refers to the three regional management centers: the runway operation center, the terminal operation center, and the public area operation center (POC). The "N" refers to multiple support units such as power, rescue, and security services.
With the completion of the airport's Phase III expansion, the joint operation control center aims to enhance airport management and service quality, fostering a more efficient operational platform and strengthening the airport's role as a regional hub.
