After five years and two months, Xi'an's highly-anticipated first metro circular line is finally here. The Xi'an Metro Line 8 (Circular Line) commenced initial operations on Dec 26.
Covering approximately 50 kilometers and including 37 stations, the circular line takes about 90 minutes from start to finish, and the full-fare price is set at 6 yuan ($0.82). It has increased the total length of Xi'an's metro network to 403 kilometers.

As the only circular line in Xi'an's metro system, Line 8 marks a new era of "circular transfer" connectivity. This development enhances inter-district connections while reshaping the city's spatial layout and extending its urban framework.
Line 8 began construction in October 2019 and now serves as a crucial backbone of Xi'an's transit network, providing 13 interchange stations with existing lines. To streamline commutes, the line features simultaneous first departures from seven stations for both inner and outer loops. Inner loop trains operate clockwise, while outer loop trains run counterclockwise.

To aid in navigation, signage, maps, and announcements at stations clearly indicate train directions. Passengers can also seek help from station staff members if needed.
In addition, 31 of the line's 37 stations integrate facilities such as bike parking, charging zones, and covered walkways, ensuring a seamless experience.
Xi'an now has only one line under construction – Line 15, which is expected to launch in 2025. Upon completion, Xi'an's metro network will be fully operational under the Phase III plan, accelerating the creation of a "city on rails" and making urban travel easier than ever.
