2024 marks the Ministry of Commerce's "Year of Consumer Promotion", with various initiatives igniting vibrant consumer enthusiasm across Xi'an. From January to October, the retail sales of the city's enterprises above a designated size hit 221.75 billion yuan ($30.54 billion), demonstrating remarkable economic vitality.

A key highlight was the "trade-in for new products" campaign launched in May. Subsidies spanning automobiles, appliances, electronics, and more spurred demand, transitioning post-pandemic recovery into sustained growth.

May saw automobile sales in Xi'an exceed 11 billion yuan, a 74.6-percent year-on-year jump. By June, subsidies totaling 21.25 million yuan had benefited over 55,000 residents, driving 325 million yuan in consumption.

In September, Xi'an introduced enhanced policies targeting consumer sectors, offering greater affordability and variety. Subsequent events like the Sept 20 promotion further catalyzed spending. Complementing these efforts, trade-in activities across cars, e-bikes, home appliances, and furnishings collectively drove billions in sales.

In addition, Xi'an hosted some vibrant consumer events, from the iconic New Year Goods Festival generating 122 million yuan in sales to the International Beer Festival drawing over 150,000 visitors. Retail extravaganzas like the National Outlets Shopping Season and 2024 Xi'an Famous Brands Showcase attracted global brands and thousands of shoppers, boosting local sales by 9 percent.

Additional campaigns, including car expos, culinary festivals, and the Double 11 shopping frenzy, cemented Xi'an's standing as a consumer hub. During the National Day holiday season, key business sales rose 2.35 percent year-on-year, while Double 11 saw Shaanxi province rank 12th nationally in number of active shoppers and 9th in transaction growth.
