The EU-China Roundtable on Copyright Protection in the Digital Environment convened on Nov 19 in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.

Participants exchanged ideas and best practices in copyright legislation and enforcement to address the challenges of advancing digital technologies.

Since the launch of the EU-China Intellectual Property Dialogue in 2004, the two sides have deepened their copyright collaboration. The IP Key China project, initiated in 2018, has further facilitated dialogue on copyright legislation, enforcement, and governance.

With generative AI technologies advancing at an unprecedented pace, the National Copyright Administration of China highlighted the urgent need to refine legal frameworks, enhance content regulation, and promote international cooperation. These measures aim to support the responsible application of AI technologies while protecting copyright holders' rights.

The event featured three key themes: recent developments in EU and Chinese copyright laws, international copyright management issues, and online copyright enforcement. Chinese representatives detailed updates to the nation's copyright legislation, while their EU counterparts shared measures to combat online piracy, regulate AI-related copyright issues, and advance legislative efforts.

The roundtable brought together over 100 experts, scholars, and industry leaders from China and the EU, fostering in-depth discussions on the future of copyright protection in the digital age.
