Xi'an pushes to create hub for talent

The city of Xi'an – capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province – is working hard on recruiting talent to help turn the city into a vibrant economic hub that goes from strength to strength, a process that began in recent years.

To date, the city has brought in a total of 117,000 people in various categories, including 1,100 high-level talent and 107 overseas high-level talent.

It's estimated that the total number of talent in the city has reached 3.65 million, including more than 1 million scientific research talent and more than 1.2 million college and university students.

The city has 31,000 university-educated people per 100,000 people, ranking it among the top 5 of major cities in the country.

Xi'an's ranking in the list of the most attractive cities for talent in the country jumped to 11th from 18th recently.

Meanwhile, Xi'an has provided favorable services for talent who start up business in the city. It has increased the security of housing for them and established a comprehensive housing security system  covering apartments, housing subsidies and rental subsidies.

To meet the diverse housing needs of new people coming in, 468 high-end talent apartments have been put into use and 460 municipal high-end talent apartments are now under construction.

In addition, the city has issued more than 50 million yuan ($6.91 million) of housing subsidies.
