FAQs/tips
Q: What are the validity period, number of entries and duration of stay of a Chinese visa?
A: 1. The validity period of the visa (Enter before) refers to the validity period of the visa itself, that is, the date from the date of issuance of the visa to the last date when the holder can enter China. In the case that there still are some remaning entries, the holder can enter China with the visa at any time before the expiration of the validity period (before 24:00 on the expiration date).
2. The number of visa entries (Entries) refers to the number of times a holder can enter and leave China's borders during the validity period of the visa.
If the entries have been used up, or have not been exhausted, but the visa has expired, the visa shall be considered invalid. If holder needs to travel to China again, he/she must apply for a visa again. If the holder uses a visa whose entries have been used up, he/she will be denied entry.
3. Duration of Each Stay means the maximum days a holder is allowed to stay after entering China, that is, from the date of entry, to the last day that the holder can stay in China.
Foreigners who stay in China for more than the duration of each stay will be imposed fines and other penalties in violation of the relevant laws and regulations of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners. If the holder needs to stay in China for more than the visa-permitted stay period, he/she must apply to the local public security organ at or above the county level for an extension within 30 days after the expiration date of the staying period. Overseas embassies and consulates do not process visa extensions.
If a foreigner is working in China (with Z visa), studying (with X visa), settling (with D visa), or is a resident correspondent (with J-1 visa), or a permanent personnel of the diplomatic service (with W visa), he/she must go to the local public security organ or local foreign affairs department to apply for the relevant residence procedures within 30 days from the date of entry.
Q: Can I apply for a visa with a stay period of more than 30 days?
A: Please indicate the time you plan to stay on the application form, and give special instructions to the consular officer when submitting the application. The consular officer will determine the length of stay according to your specific circumstances. If the approved time is still not enough, after entering China, you can go to the public security organ to apply for extension before the visa expires.
Q: Do I need an appointment to apply for a visa? Can someone else do it on my behalf? Can I apply by mail?
A: No appointment is required. Please apply at the office time of the Consulate General; You can entrust another person or a travel agency or a visa agency to apply to the Consulate General; The Consulate General does not accept visa applications by mail.
