Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, recently rolled out its development plans for the hygiene and health sector during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

The plans propose that by 2025, the city's main hygiene health indicators should rank first among sub-provincial cities and national central cities, and a high-standard regional health center should be built.

All citizens in the city should enjoy higher-quality life-cycle health services.

To realize the aforementioned goals, Xi'an will build an efficient and high-quality public health service system. During the five-year period, the city plans to complete construction on 13 hospitals, including the Xi'an Public Health Center and the relocation of the Xi'an No 1 Hospital.

By 2025, there should be 55 tertiary hospitals in the city, providing high-quality medical resources for the entire population.

More than 10 national-level key specialties, 20 high-level talent training bases, and 10 high-level scientific research innovation and transformation platforms will be established.

District and county-level general hospitals in the city should all achieve the service capacity and quality of tertiary hospitals, and 289 grassroots medical and health institutions should be built, renovated or expanded.

By 2025, more than 80 percent of general hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, nursing homes and grassroots health care institutions should become elderly-friendly health care institutions.

Additionally, Xi'an will promote the integrated application of internet medical service models in medical services, health management, health education, post-diagnosis care and other medical fields by means of 5G and other new-generation information technologies.
