The Xi'an City Wall management committee's digitalization project – helping to protect Xi'an City Wall's cultural relics and to pass on its cultural heritage – was recently selected as one of the top 10 examples of cultural and tourism digital innovation in 2022, announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The scenic spot is located in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.

The management committee has devised a working framework suitable for the protection, inheritance and utilization of the heritage in the Xi'an City Wall Scenic Spot. It has also established a scientific, standardized and institutionalized preventive protection system in an all-round way.

A total of 3,090 cultural relic monitoring points and 1,027 monitoring image data access information centers have been established, to constantly check the conditions of the city wall and its ancillary structures in real time.

This is said to not only have ensured the safety of the cultural relics, but also ensured the personal safety of tourists.

In exploring the methods of protection and utilization of its cultural relics, the people looking after the Xi'an City Wall have conducted in-depth explorations and the wall is said to be moving towards a new stage of development. What's more, the cultural relics have now been integrated into modern life with a new look of diversity, exuding a new charm.

A large display model of Chang'an city during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) has been created in the Xi'an City Wall Scenic Spot. With sounds, lights, electricity and digital projections, tourists can get a real feel about ancient Chang'an.

In addition, a series of 25 digital collections related to the city wall have been launched, which have broken a sales record for such collections in the domestic tourism industry.

In addition, to accelerate the development of smart tourism in the scenic spot and provide great services to tourists, a WeChat applet called Meet the City Wall Treasure Box (遇见城墙百宝箱) was launched.

The applet integrates online ticket purchases, scenic spot announcements, event information, an online shopping mall and other content, improving the tourist experience.
