Shaanxi Institute of Advanced OEIC Technologies Co (OEIC), a company based in Xi'an, released for the first time mass‑production‑grade core process data of Northwest China's first 8‑inch silicon photonics pilot‑test platform on Aug 23.
This marks the first systematic sharing of mature process parameters with the industry since the platform achieved stable operation in 2025, filling a critical gap in pilot‑test industrialization for silicon photonic integration in Shaanxi province. Additionally, it helps lower costs and enhances efficiency in R&D for domestic optoelectronic chips used in advanced applications such as AI computing power, high‑speed optical interconnection, and optical computing.
OEIC was established in 2015 by Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, together with the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology and Xi'an Hi‑tech Zone. With cumulative investment exceeding 1.5 billion yuan ($223.18 million), it has built a complete pilot service system for the photonics industry integrating process R&D, pilot‑scale tape‑out, pilot‑scale verification, as well as industry‑university‑research collaboration.
In 2025, OEIC was selected for the first batch of national‑level manufacturing pilot‑test platforms by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It is the country's first national‑level pilot platform dedicated to photonic integration and the first of its kind in Shaanxi province.
Xi'an will continue to improve the innovation ecosystem for the photonics industry and is striving toward its development targets of a 50‑billion‑yuan photonics industrial cluster by 2027 and a 100‑billion‑yuan cluster by 2030.
OEIC will continue to consolidate the process foundation for the photonics industry, and empower the development of new‑quality productive forces across the province through scientific and technological innovation, contributing to the high-quality development of West China's photonics industry.
