Xi'an Hi-tech Industries Development Zone signed a memorandum of understanding with Boboo Hitech, a leading manufacturer of core semiconductor components in South Korea, on July 9 for the "Boboo Semiconductor Key Components Maintenance and Manufacturing Base" project.

Focusing on the maintenance and local production of core components such as electrostatic chucks (ESC) and heaters for semiconductors, the project reflects how Xi'an Hi-tech Zone has welcomed another major foreign investor in the supporting sector of critical semiconductor components.

With 30 years of in-depth engagement in the industry, Boboo Hitech has long focused on key niche segments in the semiconductor sector. Its products have been supplied to world-leading memory chip manufacturers, including Samsung and SK hynix, placing the company among the industry's top players in terms of technology and product capabilities.

The newly signed project involves a total investment of 150 million yuan ($22.11 million) and will be constructed in two phases.

Phase I plans to use 50 million yuan. It will lease a standard factory building of nearly 2,000 square meters to carry out maintenance work and the local manufacturing of components including ESCs and heaters for semiconductor production. Another 100 million yuan is scheduled for Phase II to expand production capacity.

The project is expected to achieve an annual output value of 60 million yuan upon completion of Phase I and reach 200 million yuan once Phase II is fully operational.

Since Samsung's flash memory chip project settled in the area in 2012, Xi'an Hi-tech Zone has deepened its industrial cooperation with South Korea, attracting a cluster of enterprises from the neighboring country along the semiconductor industrial chain to set up operations here.

The landing of the Boboo project will strengthen local supply and service capabilities for key semiconductor components, adding fresh impetus to the advancement of the zone's semiconductor industry.
