Amid in‑depth restructuring of traditional industries, emerging industries have sprung up with irreversible momentum, serving as a powerful engine driving the transformation and upgrading of Xi'an's manufacturing sector.

In 2025, Xi'an was home to 73 new‑material enterprises above the designated size, with total industrial output value exceeding 39.80 billion yuan ($5.91 billion), and the output value rose by 25.3 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2026.

In August, construction began on Xi'an Lanhui Technology Co's silicon‑carbide materials' production and R&D base project in Gaoling district. Covering an area of 114.26 mu (7.62 hectares), the project involves a total investment of about 590 million yuan, focusing on the R&D and manufacturing of third‑generation semiconductor materials, such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride, as well as fourth‑generation semiconductor materials represented by gallium oxide.

The output value of Xi'an's large‑aircraft industrial chain cluster also rose by 5.3 percent from January to June, with Western Aerospace Technology (Shaanxi) Co completing its registration in Xi'an Hi‑tech Industries Development Zone with a registered capital of 500 million yuan on March 30.

Targeting the goal of "1,000 satellites and 100 rockets", the enterprise plans to produce three satellites in the first year, 30 in the second year, and 300 in the third year.

Xi'an's output of mobile communication base‑station equipment rose by 36.3 percent in the first half of 2026. In May, China Telecom and China Unicom, together with ZTE and Qualcomm, completed the industry's capability verification for five-component-carrier (5CC) aggregation with the largest bandwidth based on Sub‑6GHz in Xi'an.

Supported by an ultra‑large, aggregated bandwidth of nearly 500 MHz combined with 1024QAM high‑order modulation technology, the peak downlink rate exceeded 7.7 Gbps, setting a new record for the rate of 5G‑A commercial networks.

Huawei and ZTE hold important positions in the global communications equipment market, with Huawei having built the world's second‑largest R&D center and ZTE having set up an R&D center as well as western China's largest intelligent terminal manufacturing base in Xi'an. From technical verification to capacity roll‑out, the city is writing its own chapter in the 5G‑A era.
