​Xi'an economic zone sees development shift up a gear

The total GDP of Xi'an Economic and Technological Development Zone hit 139 billion yuan ($20.53 billion) in 2025, representing a year-on-year increase of 8.2 percent. The total output value of industrial enterprises above designated size exceeded 310 billion yuan, up 19.6 percent.

Xi'an economic zone serves as the core hub for the city's industrial economy. In 2025, its industrial output value accounted for one-third of the city's total. The output value of the automobile industry and modern energy industry reached 126.1 billion yuan and 127.8 billion yuan, respectively. Two new industrial enterprises with an output value of over 10 billion yuan were added, bringing the total number to six.

A total of 195 industrial projects were introduced throughout the year, with a combined investment of 58.5 billion yuan. Among these projects, the R&D center for complete sets of intelligent coal mine equipment, the largest single investment project of China Coal Technology and Engineering Group, covers a land area of 435 mu (29 hectares) with a total investment of 3.5 billion yuan.

It will be built into a super factory for coal machinery equipment featuring the highest level of automation and the most sophisticated production technologies nationwide.

In 2025, there were 26 key projects with an annual planned investment of 7.88 billion yuan in the zone, and the actual completed investment stood at 8.16 billion yuan.

The country's first digital intelligent factory of COFCO Coca-Cola was constructed within 13 months, setting a new national record for the construction speed of factories of equivalent scale in China.

Meanwhile, PepsiCo's first production base in Northwest China was completed and put into operation in less than 400 days, hitting the fastest construction record among all its factories worldwide.

The provincial-level new materials laboratory has commenced operation, with 13 research teams from seven universities and research institutes settled there.

Throughout the year, 2,300 small and medium-sized tech-based enterprises and 1,200 high-tech enterprises filed applications for accreditation, and the turnover of technology contracts exceeded 30 billion yuan.

The zone will accelerate the construction of a world-class base for industrial innovation and development, striving to set an exemplary benchmark in Xi'an's practice of Chinese modernization.
